Pantex Plant is the production integrator for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), as well as a provider of nuclear deterrence solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense. Pantex has a long-term mission to safely and securely maintain the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile. So when Pantex needed to ensure that it could safely and securely share data from one facility to another, Pantex leveraged the Denodo Platform.

Fast and Secure Data Sharing

Pantex works in collaboration with several national laboratories to test surveillance assemblies that are manufactured at Pantex. This requires Pantex to provide a list of assembly components, so the lab can assemble a bill-of-materials report prior to the testing process. To do so, Pantex was extracting the necessary data from an Oracle database, copying it to a spreadsheet, and emailing it to the lab, where it was manually entered into a manufacturing resource planning (MRP) system.

However, this process was slow. In addition, different legacy systems and applications stored data in multiple formats, making information even more difficult to share. This problem was intensified by high security restrictions between facilities.

Pantex deployed the Denodo Platform, which uses data virtualization to present a normalized view of the as-built component data to members of the laboratory team. The Denodo Platform provides a real-time view of the necessary data as a secure SOAP web service, which can be quickly and easily accessed by laboratory engineers.
